Transcargo
Biography
Last summer saw the release of Transcargo’s debut album Idle Luxury, which took them touring round Europe and South America, thanks to their single Oh Boy being picked for a Renault Clio ad. Amongst others the band played to a crowd of 40,000 people in Milan and a royal performance in Monte Carlo for the Prince! Strange but true…. Transcargo have always been fiercely independent carving out an unusual and innovative journey for themselves in the music world. The band played in towns in Brazil where no European band has ever ventured before. The tour escalated into MTV and national TV exposure with packed gigs in San Paulo. The band preside at their studio in London Bridge, formerly home to Stock Aitken and Waterman’s Hit Factory, where they have recorded their second album, “MOMENTUM” to be released in March 2006 on Spinney and on Trolley Bus in Japan.
Produced by Barny, who recently mixed Kasabian’s debut album, The Arctic Monkeys and Placebo,
Transcargo’s 7 members are from all over the place including up North, Kent and France. Their horn section have just been touring with Basement Jaxx and Madness, while Anthony Whiting who plays guitar for the band produced tracks on M.I.A.’s debut Arula. Emily Phillips is the lead vocalist in Transcargo, and has a music history in classical piano and cello. She has set up a charity that develops urban music for disadvantaged youth in the area.
Transcargo collect vintage gear. The sound of these instruments can be heard in the layered production on their new album.
